In New Orleans, untrimmed trees are a hurricane liability.

Mature trees are part of what makes New Orleans neighborhoods feel like New Orleans neighborhoods. Live oaks, magnolias, sweet olives, crepe myrtles, they shade the yard, hold up to the heat, and frame every house in the city.

But untrimmed they become a problem fast. Branches scrape the roof during routine wind. Dead wood drops on cars. The canopy gets too heavy on one side and the whole tree leans. And then a tropical storm comes through and what was an aesthetic issue becomes an insurance claim.

We trim trees up to 30 feet for clearance, health, and storm-readiness. Bigger jobs (full removal, trees over 30 feet, anything requiring climbing or crane work) we refer to certified arborist partners, we’ll tell you honestly which category your tree is in.

๐ŸŒฑ WHAT’S INCLUDED

What’s in a TurnKey Tree-Trimming Job

  • Pre-trim assessment we walk every tree, identify health issues (dead wood, disease, structural cracks), and recommend the right prune for each, not a one-size-fits-all hack job
  • Crown thinning + lifting selective removal of inner branches to reduce wind resistance and let light through; lifting the lower canopy for clearance over driveways, walks, and structures
  • Dead wood removal all dead, diseased, or storm-damaged limbs cut back to the next healthy branch, never flush-cut, never stub-cut
  • Structural pruning for young or medium trees, we shape the canopy for long-term health, removing co-dominant leaders, crossing branches, and weak attachments
  • Clearance pruning anything touching or threatening the roof, gutters, power lines (if non-utility), or sight lines from the driveway
  • Full haul-off all cut wood, brush, and debris loaded and hauled off-site, no brush pile left for you to deal with

๐Ÿ“… HOW IT WORKS

Three Steps to Trees Ready for Whatever the Sky Sends

Step 1

Free Tree-by-Tree Walk-Through

We walk every tree on the property with you, point out what needs attention, and explain our recommendations, health pruning vs. clearance pruning vs. hurricane prep. Honest assessment, no upselling. Flat job quote.

Step 2

Scheduled Visit

Most jobs are a single visit (half-day to full day depending on the number of trees). We avoid trimming during active heat stress (peak July/August) and right before known storm fronts, both are bad timing for the trees and for the crew.

Step 3

Clean-Up Included

Crew brings a chipper or trailer. Every cut limb, branch, and twig comes off the property the same day. We sweep the driveway, check the yard for dropped debris, and pull out clean.

โ“ COMMON QUESTIONS

Tree Trimming in New Orleans: What Homeowners Ask Us

How tall a tree can you handle?

We trim trees up to 30 feet without specialized climbing or crane equipment. Anything taller, leaning, or requiring rope-work we refer to certified arborist partners we trust. We’ll tell you honestly during the walk-through which category your tree falls into, no one benefits from us trying to handle a job that needs a real arborist.

When’s the best time to trim trees in New Orleans?

Late winter (January-February) for most pruning, the trees are dormant, you can see the structure clearly, and the cuts heal before spring growth. Mid-summer trimming is fine for clearance and dead wood. The two windows we avoid: peak heat stress (late July/August) and within 7 days of a forecasted tropical system.

Do I need a permit to trim my trees?

In most New Orleans parishes, no permit needed for routine trimming on private property. Exception: live oaks over a certain size in some historic districts and protected trees in conservation overlays. If your tree is large and old, we’ll mention it during the walk-through and recommend you check with the parish before we cut.

What about my crepe myrtles, do you ‘top’ them?

No. Crepe murder (topping the trunks) is a destructive habit that damages the tree’s structure and shortens its life. We prune crepe myrtles properly, thinning, removing crossing branches, cleaning up suckers, to enhance the natural shape, not destroy it. If you’ve inherited topped crepes, we can help rehabilitate them over a few seasons.

Can you handle storm cleanup separately?

Yes, we have a separate clean-up-and-hauling service for storm aftermath. Tree trimming is preventive work done before storms; storm cleanup is reactive work done after. Different visit, different quote. We try to get to existing clients first when a named storm passes through.
